This 24x36” mixed media piece has a hidden history. The foundational layer of this textured abstract painting is comprised of 1950s advertisements from Vogue and Town & Country magazines. Intended to remain partly visible, the ads were slowly submerged under layers of teal, slate blue and cream as my creative process took over. The result is a literal palimpsest - an object with the original history obscured, yet its physical presence completely dictates the final surface texture.
Punctuated by shimmering gold accents and dramatic dark drips, the final piece carries the weight and history of its hidden past. The intricate layering and palette knife textures invite close-up inspection, beautifully catching the light and complementing moody interiors, dark accent walls, or modern decor.
